Freshman Maia Contreras belted a go-ahead, three-run homer in the bottom of the sixth inning Thursday and the Episcopal Academy softball team earned a 3-1 victory over Archbishop Ryan.
Maddie Masiko dominated with 18 strikeouts from the circle in a complete game two-hitter.
In the Ches-Mont League
Sun Valley 4, Bishop Shanahan 0 >> All-Delco Jordyn Skarren struck out 17 and helped her cause with a homer and two-run double. Layla Murphy had two hits and Carly Hess knocked in a run for the Vanguards.
Baseball
Ian Ferrell blasted a home run in Episcopal Academy’s 10-0 rout of Delco Christian.
Ferrell, Michael Caden, Gavin Terzoglou, Reggie King and Bobby Menear all collected two hits for the Churchmen.
In the Del Val League:
Chester 22, Penn Wood 1 >> Marcus Benson was 3-for-3 with four RBIs and three runs scored for the Clippers. Juan Martinez struck out 13 in a five-inning complete game and added two hits and three RBIs.
In the Central League:
Harriton 3, Springfield 2 >> The Rams scored two controversial runs in the bottom of the sixth. Following a dropped third strike, the Harriton batter collided with Springfield first baseman Matt Bean, who was prevented from catching Ethan Marshall’s throw from the backstop. The tying and go-ahead runs scored and the Rams held on to win.
Marshall and Mike Turner both went 2-for-3 for the Cougars. Sean Williams struck out eight and allowed two runs (one earned) on four hits over eight innings.
Boys Tennis
Brady Huggett and Flynn Hollinger each recorded 6-1, 6-0 victories in singles action as Penncrest defeated Haverford, 5-2.
For Haverford, No. 4 Jonah Leach and David Thomson and No. 3 Christian Hyun and Zack Powers triumphed in double competition.
Episcopal Academy 4, Central Bucks South 3 >> Preston Lubinecki and Connor Chambers were successful at first and second singles, respectively, for the Churchmen.
